This year Coombeshead Academy has provided students with LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Drama) at Grade 6 level, Bronze award. This qualification was offered to Year 12 and 13 A level Drama and BTEC Performing Arts students. These awards require the students to perform two speeches, one Shakespearean and a modern monologue. The students also needed to show knowledge and understanding of both the characters and the plays.
Students can achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction. All these levels of achievement carry UCAS points. From the seven Post 16 Coombeshead students that entered into this examination, six achieved distinctions (12 UCAS points) and one achieved a Merit (10 UCAS points). In total 82 UCAS points were achieved from this examination for the Coombeshead students.
These fabulous results are even more impressive as the student’s level of achievement at distinction was outstanding. To achieve a distinction the student’s require 80 marks and over. Four out of the six students who achieved distinctions achieved marks in the 90’s and one student even achieved full marks, 100 out of a 100 marks! This is an incredible result for Coombeshead Academy Post 16 students.
The Drama and LAMDA Teacher at Coombeshead Academy commented that “All the students worked very hard and deserve these fantastic results. I am extremely proud of all their achievements. Well Done!”
